Being
right in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park,
Goathland is the ideal base for exploration. The historic
fishing town of Whitby is only 9 miles away, steeped in history
with many claims to fame such as Bram Stokers’ Dracula. Whitby
is home to the magnificent Whitby Abbey and the 199 Steps.
Tall ships like HM Bark Endeavour & the Grand Turk can
often be found docked in the harbour in tribute to Whitby’s
greatest seafarer Captain James Cook. Whitby is also host
to several Gothic Weekends and events. Adventure further along
the rugged coastline to discover the idyllic fishing villages
of Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes and Runswick Bay, Where cobbled
streets of old and smugglers can be found! Take a nostalgic
trip on the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway which runs
between the village of Grosmont and the market town of Pickering,
Goathland has it own station, this was used as “Hogsmeade
Station” in the “Harry Potter” Film.
